Today is my final day in New York before heading to do a short contract over in West Virginia and I am so ridiculously excited.  With this new opportunity, I am going to meet so many people and probably develop some lifelong friendships.  And of course, becoming a member of Actor’s Equity is going to open up so many doors that I am even more aware of how I want to share my gifts to further create the life of my dreams.  Singing is my first love and definitely something I’ve always been able to do ever since I was a little girl.  However, acting is also something that makes me feel so incredibly alive.  It’s this silent, strong current that comes over me whenever I act and this Spring has been all about harnessing that gift.

When I think about where I would like to be as a professional artist, there are a handful of performers that I admire simply because they used all of their talents to get to where they are now.   Jamie Foxx is a perfect example of someone that used all of his gifts to create the life he dreamed of.  Jamie Foxx first became known to the world because of his comedy.  He went from doing sketch comedy on one of the BEST sketch comedy television shows ever – In Living Color, to film, then music and so forth.  Very diligent if I must say so myself!

Here are some lessons we can learn from Mister Jamie Foxx here:
  1. Keep An Open Mind And Let The Universe Lead You: It is so important to have a vision of the life you wish to create, however it is just as important to let go and let God at the same time.  Sometimes we get so caught up on doing it “our way” or the need to be in complete control of the entire process.  Let me tell you, the universe has a way of bringing things to be a lot better than you could do all on your own. Let go of the steering wheel.  Jamie Foxx is a prime example of someone that listened to the signs of the universe – listening and reading the RIGHT opportunities that would catapult his career to new heights every step along the way.
  2. Explore Different Platforms To Get Your Message Across To The Right People:  We are each born with gifts.  In most cases, we are born with multiple gifts that if all used together can help us get to where we ideally want to be in life.  So USE THEM! Sure you may “like” one gift over the other but if another talent can help you build a foundation or a bridge so you CAN rock out your most “favorite gift”, why not run with that?  I believe I read somewhere that Jamie Foxx loved to sing so much.  When he was started out however, the opportunities that came his way were for comedy, then acting.  Eventually, Jamie was in a position to dish out as many albums as he wanted and to incorporate his love of singing into his own productions and works.  My point is that if opportunities are coming your way that are align with your talents and gifts, run with it and see where it goes.  There is a fine line between having a clear vision and blocking your blessings!
  3. Use All Of Your Gifts To Get You To Where You Need To Be: They were given to you for a reason so work them for all they are worth.  When you meet your maker one of the first things you should be able to say is, “I used all that you have given me and I am spent.”

  • I admire him, too, for the way he has used his talent to create the life he wanted. And I see what you mean about how he started out taking the opportunities available and waited until the time was right to use his gift for music. How about the movie Ray for a beautiful example of that!!! I bet he was so excited when that came along.

I love this and I totally agree Tamala! 🙂 To expand, we must use the gifts we are passionate about, but yes use more than one gift to get us where we wanna go, as you say! And I admire Jamie Foxx’s work and his drive to create the life of his dreams. I’m so excited for your new production coming up! Break a leg! <3

This is such timeless information. I use all of my talents, too. Last year I discovered acting and wrote and performed in a one-woman show. What an experience! I knew it would be fun but I never suspected it would be so transformational. I’m also a Dream Guide and encourage my clients to bring their dreams to work on. I use my artist and writer side in my art therapy workshops. Thanks for such a great post!

Great post. I love the point that we must let the universe lead us and bring all our gifts to bear on that.

  • What a great message! I love your insights about Letting the Universe have the steering wheel and also about utilizing all your gifts and not trying to just focus on the one you like best – I agree we are all MULTI-DIMENSIONAL beings and to try to stuff ourselves into a particular box or to only express one of our gifts actually shuts us off to the possibility of a life of ultimate fulfillment. I continue to discover new gifts in myself AND I think they all come under the umbrella gift that I am here to deliver which is it bring healing, harmony and higher awareness to the planetary family! I do this by speaking, writing, performing, sounding, making art, creating jewelry, photography, dancing, and ultimately just BEING who I am in all my glorious variety! Many blessings to YOU as you unwrap all the gifts that you are here to deliver and to enjoy!
