The headline says it all and I could not be more excited. Finding the love of my life, reaching nirvana, booking Broadway or the lead in a sitcom are just about the only things that could make me feel any higher than I do right now. A few days ago I was offered my first equity contract and for one of the shows I have been yearning to do, Smokey Joe's Cafe!!! If you are in the West Virginia area this summer, please check me out at Greenbrier Valley Theater.
On top of getting my equity card...

While sailing around the Hawaii islands for several GLORIOUS months, I thought it would be a good idea to put together some videos to showcase what I've been doing with myself for all the world to see. I have been stalking previous directors and cast mates for any coverage or copies of the show that they may have so I could piece "something" together. To my surprise, I actually had access to some pretty useable material.
Here is a video of some SIXTIES type music for your pleasure. In add...

by

I remember when I saw the casting notice for Norwegian Cruise Line and feeling disappointment because I already committed to working that day. Lo and behold a day later, I receive an email from Gregg Baker that I have an appointment for a day that did not interfere with my work schedule. I was STOKED!!!!! I remember waking up and feeling so good that day! I believe it was August 1st and the energy from the new moon made me feel light and full at the same time. So on the way there, I...

In my best impersonation of Kevin Hart, "Alright, alright, alright!" That is how I feel! I am so delighted that I will be working with this amazing theater this SPRING! In my mind I have a list of some of the regional theaters I would like to work and Westchester Broadway Theater has been on the list since I started this crazy journey in 2009. Why, you may ask? Why are they such a big deal? Well, because Westchester is the longest running year-round Equity theatre in the state of New Yor...

New Booking (…well sort of): The Sunshine Boys
by

This actually isn't that new - it has been almost a month since I joined the cast of The Sunshine Boys at the John Engeman Theater in Northport. I am currently an understudy for the amazing Gayle Samuels. Her Broadway credits include Sunset Boulevard (the only person of color in the show. I know this because I told her that I didn't know there were black people in this show. Her reply was something along the lines of that she simply shows up and owns the moment. She used the word "star...

A combination of "owning" her skills and type and a supportive audition environment helped Tamala Baldwin get cast as one of the Dynamites, as well as the Pearl/Motormouth Maybelle understudy, in a production of "Hairspray" at the John W. Engeman Theater in Northport, Long Island, N.Y.
From the start of the audition process, it seemed clear to Baldwin—who is an Actors' Equity membership candidate and Screen Actors Guild–eligible—that the theater's production staff wanted to create a posit...

I remember when I was a little girl I had two or three movies that I would drop everything for if they happen to come on TV. They were the Last Dragon, the Little Princess and Little Shop of Horrors, Dirty Dancing and Teen Witch - okay so five movies! So you can imagine my excitement when I was offered the role of Crystal in a theatrical production of Little Shop of Horrors.
It's one of the longest-running Off-Broadway shows of all time, and this affectionate spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies has ...

2011 has been a year of new life for me in so many areas of my life, with the latest booking of Hairspray being another testament to all of goodness going on around me. I remember praying out loud for this booking and when the call finally came, I literally leaped off the couch and began jumping all over the living room. I was so elated that God heard my prayer.
I am joining the cast as a DYNAMITE. They are a 60s girl group of the show and it's so much fun. Additionally, I am understudying...
